Yorubas, as a large and united ethnic group living in all the 19 Northern States and the FCT should leverage on their numbers and influence in supporting and contributing to the success of the present administration led by Bola Tinubu.
The Asiwaju Yoruba of Kano State and member representing Yagba East/Yagba West/Mopa-muro Federal Constituency of Kogi State in the House of Representatives representing, Hon. Leke Abejide gave the charge in Abuja at the 10th year anniversary and election of new executive council of the “Association of Yoruba Traditional Leaders and Obas in the Northern Region of the country”.
He described the gathering as unique, as it showcased the culture, value, and the importance of Yoruba race in Nigeria and specifically called on the people to join him in rallying round the president in his tireless quest in setting Nigeria on path of economic growth.
He noted that, the Yoruba people in the country are a foremost group that excel in anything they do, anywhere they found themselves, citing his personal example as someone who lived in Kano for about 32 years who came in as a nobody and by the Grace of God is where he is today.
ln an acceptance speech on behalf of the new exco, Chairman of the Yoruba Traditional Council in the Northern Region and Oba Yoruba of Funtua, Katsina State Alhaji Murtala Sani Adeleke promised a new vista in the cohesion and progress of the people.
Oba Adeleke said channels are being established for synergy between Yoruba Obas in the north and Obas in the Southwest towards facilitating all-round development among the Odua Descendants.
In an interview, the council’s erstwhile Public Relations Officer and now Welfare Officer, Oba Yoruba Karshi, Nasarawa State, Oba Ladejobi Adebayo Owolabi described the past decade in the Council’s existence as challenging and interesting.
He said “We have been able to surmount challenges that threatened our existence and came out stronger to rally our subjects in unity and sense of purpose.”
