Minister of the Federal Capital Territory FCT, Nyesom Wike has slammed the Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Engr. Yohana Dauda, for allegedly attempting to defraud victims of demolition at Gishiri village.
The controversy surrounds the compensation of 455 people affected by the ongoing road construction, whose homes were demolished last week.
The Minister who addressed some key stakeholders and a delegation of Gishiri Community’s leaders, expressed aghast over the shady deals which the ES was allegedly promoting in the compensation of the victims.
Wike expressed outrage upon learning that Dauda, in collaboration with the Department of Compensation and Relocation, was offering victims significantly less than the N1.3 billion compensation he had approved.
The Minister accused Dauda of promoting shady deals and betraying the trust of his people and the government.
The youth leader of Gishiri community, Umaru Godwin, accused Dauda of changing the Minister’s instructions regarding their relocation, proposing a waterlogged environment unsuitable for building.
Another community member, Princess Juliet Jonah, alleged that victims were offered a paltry N72,000 per building.
However, Wike warned Dauda to rectify the situation immediately and pay the victims the approved compensation, or face termination.
