Apparently miffed by the nefarious activities of land grabbers and speculators as well as unscrupulous herdsmen, Legal luminary, Ngozi Olehi, SAN, has advised the Imo State government to take immediate steps to formulate a land preservation policy in the state.
Olehi made the call during an interactive session with Ngor Okpala Media Advisory Council, NOMAC, who paid him a solidarity and courtesy visit in his Owerri office, Monday.
The legal luminary posited that the reckless activities of unscrupulous land grabbers in parts of the state has made it imperative for government to take urgent action in land preservation and other development issues anchored on a housing agenda.
He said, “It is projected that in the next 50years population will multiply but the land will not expand. The question before us now, is what policy is put on ground to preserve land for the expected population explosion. If nothing urgent is done, our area will turn to volatile Niger Delta in future.
“Land preservation policy is imperative in the state now. Imo is among the states with the least land space in Nigeria and needs to do everything possible to preserve the limited available land”, he said.
Olehi enjoined the people of Ngor Okpala LGA, to be vigilant and resist the temptations of land grabbers and unscrupulous business who come under the guise of investors to subtly dispossess them of their ancestral heritage.
He noted with dismay that the unwholesome activities of land speculators in Ngor Okpala, is becoming alarming and unbearable.
