Out of the 4,243 teachers recruited by the Teachers Service Commission, TSC in Nasarawa State, only 781 are qualified to teach.
Executive Chairman of the Board, Amb.Timothy Kasuwa, in a clarification statement released yesterday indicated that, going by rigorous scrutiny, the state government has discovered that not all those employed met the criteria for teaching positions.
He explained that the remaining 719 positions will be filled through the same ongoing transparent and merit-based recruitment exercise to ensure the full realization of the Governor’s approved target of 1,500 competent teachers.
The statement read in parts, “It is important to clarify that the State Government, in its commitment to improving the quality of education across the state, had initially granted approval to the previous management of the TSC to recruit 1,000 qualified teachers,
“However, it was discovered that the previous TSC management went beyond this mandate and recruited 4,243 candidates, exceeding the approved number by a significant margin. Among these, 1,000 individuals were issued appointment letters and placed on the State’s wage bill, even though the legitimacy and qualifications of many had not been verified.”
Amb. Kasuwa, emphasized that the 719 available positions will be open to all eligible and qualified candidates across the state, and the recruitment portal will be made accessible for fresh applications once all formalities have been concluded.
The TSC Chairman further announced that the entire 1,000 teachers previously recruited will be formally disengaged from the services of the State with effect from 30th June 2025.
He resolved that all those who have been posted and rendered services in various schools will receive their full entitlements and benefits, while those who were not posted will be adequately compensated in line with extant rules and regulations.
