NSCDC FCT Commandant leads youths in peace-building activities.

Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Command, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, has advocated for the involvement of Youths in peace building in Nigeria.
Odumosu, made the advocacy while speaking during a Peace Walk organized by the NSCDC in conjunction with the University of Abuja.
He said, “There is no better way to sustain growth except we advocate for peace, we need to carry the youth along in peace building, it is the sure way for development in our country.”
He posited that as a security agency, it was their duty to promote the efforts of the government by ensuring that the SDGs were sustained.
The FCT helmsman, said that the theme of the celebration: “Advancing Peace through the Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs,” was critical adding that the Federal Government SDGs, can only be achieved if there was peace in the country.
He urged leaders at all levels to understand that peace was golden and must be imbibed especially during political rallies, that will soon commence, by avoiding statements that could set the polity on fire.
“It is important to discuss issues and not individuals, we need to know that peace is achievable if we all recognize our diversities, seeing each other as one and looking out for each other,” he stated.
He said the choice of the University to carry out the walk was inspired by the fact that the University was an academic environment with vast population , especially the youths, consequently the most suitable place to preach peace and it’s sustainability.
“We are here to tell you all that cultism, banditry, kidnapper and criminality is an obstacle to development, peace is all we need to make advancement, it is time for you to sheath your sword and join hand with government to make Nigeria great, criminality is not the way to go,” Odumosu stated.
He called on Nigerians especially leaders to eschew violence, put an end to ethnic conflicts and learn to give peace a chance as well as engage in things that will promote the unity of the country as well as her development.
He emphasized the need for all and sundry to advance and promote peace in the land.
In his remarks the Dean of Faculty of Social Sciences, Professor Mutiu Olasupo, observed that Nigeria can not develop until citizens allow peace to reign, stating that Nigeria was not a circular country but a multi religious, political and social group, for that reason, the people must understand who they are and learn to tolerate one another and leave in harmony.
He charged the political class to shun the seat – tight syndrome that was prevalent in Africa and create opportunity for the youths to participate and step into leadership.
According to a press release signed by DSC Monica Ojobi, Ag. FCT CDPRO, the International Day of peace was celebrated on the 21st of September.
