Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has flagged off the 15km rehabilitation of the old keffi Road from Kado Village to Dei-Dei districts of the federal capital territory.
He reaffirmed President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to fulfilling infrastructure promises made to residents of the territory.
Speaking at the flag off ceremony on Tuesday, Wike recalled that when President Tinubu assumed office in 2023, one of the first emergency road projects approved was the Saburi 1 and Saburi 2 Roads.
He assured residents that the rehabilitation of the old Keffi Road would follow to ensure connectivity and ease of movement within the area.
“Today, to the glory of God, we are here to fulfil that promise made by Mr. President. This project covers about 15 kilometers and has been awarded to Lubrik Construction, the same contractor that handled the Saburi Road, because of their proven competence and quality of work,” the Minister said.
Wike also commended the Chairman of Abuja municipal area council AMAC, Christopher Maikalangu, for his consistent advocacy on behalf of his constituents, describing him as a true representative who understands the needs of his people.
“When we commissioned the Saburi Road, I asked him what more his people needed, and he mentioned this same road from Kado Village to Dei-Dei, as well as the Ketti–Kabusa and Kabusa–Takushara roads.
That is what representation is about, speaking for the people, not oneself,” Wike said.
The Minister urged residents to continue supporting the administration of President Tinubu, noting that the government’s actions speak louder than words.
“Seeing is believing. This is not a government of empty promises; it is a government that fulfils them. Out of 103 schools, 73 are already under reconstruction, and 33 more will soon be flagged off. This is the first time such scale of development is happening in Abuja,” he added.
Wike also cautioned residents against supporting politicians who has failed to deliver in the past, emphasising that the current administration is changing the narrative in the FCT.
“We gave them the first chance, they failed us. We gave them the second, they failed again. If you give them a third chance, they will finish you. So we have no alternative but to stand with this government that is truly delivering for Nigerians and the people of Abuja,” he said.
The Minister disclosed that project flag-offs will continue over the coming weeks, with 27 scheduled events taking place within the month.
“No administration has ever done this before. This is the first time, and it’s happening under President Bola Tinubu,” he affirmed.
Wike urged the contracting firm to prioritise the employment of local youth and women during the project, to ensure that communities also benefit economically from the construction activities.
In her vote of thanks, FCT Minister of State, Mariya Mahmoud applauded President Bola Tinubu for his continuous support to infrastructure renewal and for prioritising projects that touch the lives of ordinary citizens.
She stressed that the project was yet another testimony of Mr. President’s vision of delivering roads that promote connectivity, accessibility, and economic growth in the FCT.
While extending appreciation to FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, for his purposeful leadership, Mahmoud emphasized that the rehabilitation of the Old Keffi Road from Kado Village to Dei-Dei Junction is of immense significance.
According to her, “This road is a lifeline that serves thousands of commuters daily, linking communities, reducing travel time, improving road safety, and stimulating socio-economic activities across the axis.”
