President, Pan-African Psychology Union, PAPU, Prof Andrew zamani said the union has concluded plan to hold its Higher Education Conference in Nigeria.
The conference slated to hold from November 4, to 8 2025 will bring together lecturers of psychology and scholars to examine the challenges of psychology education on the continent, explore possibilities for the harmonization of psychology curriculum to enable accreditation for the practice of psychology across the continent as well as afford respective Ministers of Education and regulatory bodies the opportunity to provide further guidance for improvement of training standards in Nigerian universities.
While briefing journalists in Abuja Thursday, on Pan-African Psychology Union 2025 Higher Education Conference, the PAPU president the main goal of the conference is to bridge knowledge and skills gap between the university and industry.
The aim also, according to zamami, is to harmonize curricula that enable psychologists harmonize a basic minimum academic standard which would help them respond to the continents current developmental changes and enhance leadership capacities that impact quality of life positively.
He highlighted two preconference activities to include: The Student ‘s Summit which will commence on the 5th November 2025 and the Distinguished Professor Sathastivan Cooper Inaugural Lecture as an honor to the founding president.
The PAPU president disclosed that
about 300 delegates are expected to attend the conference from within African and diaspora to examine reimagining psychology education in Africa which includes: Bridging policy and practice gap in psychology education; Academic mentoring ( staff and students); innovation, patents and copyrights issues in research, publication and psychtechnology.
Others include Artificial intelligence, machine-enhanced learning and application; and regulating psychology education in Africa.
Nigerian Pilot gathered that Pan African Psychology Union was established to promote the development of psychology as a scientific and professional discipline, with a focus on addressing the continent ‘s unique developmental challenges and is committed to scholarship and human development.
It’s activities included promoting research, education, and practice of psychology that address the unique needs and experiences of Africans.
