As part of proactive measures to prevent fire outbreaks and mitigate losses at the Kugbo Timber Market and other timber markets in Abuja, the Controller of Fire, Federal Fire Service, FCT Command, CF Mohammed Anas has convened a meeting with the Executive members of various market associations of Kugbo Market Association at the Command Headquarters.
The meeting according to a press release signed by DSF Barnabas Anyam, Public Relations Officer, Federal Fire Service, FCT Command, focused on addressing the persistent risk of fire incidents in timber markets and developing practical strategies to mitigate such occurrences.
In his remarks, the Controller of Fire commended the officials of the Kugbo Timber Market for responding to the invitation and stressed the urgent need for proactive safety measures noting that timber markets, due to their combustible materials, were highly vulnerable to fire outbreaks.
As part of the resolutions reached, the Controller recommended the establishment of a fire station within or near the market to ensure rapid emergency response.
He also advised the installation of fire hydrants at strategic points within the market and directed that fire extinguishers be provided in all sections.
The Controller further emphasized the importance of training traders and market workers on the proper use of fire extinguishers and general fire safety practices.
Responding, Chairman of the market association, Augustine Abonyi expressed their appreciation to the Fire Service for its concern and pledged full cooperation in implementing the recommended safety measures.
The meeting concluded with both parties agreeing to conduct a joint inspection of the market and organize a comprehensive fire safety and disaster management training session for traders.
