The atmosphere at St. Patrick’s Catholic church, Swali, Yenagoa on Sunday was filled with hymns, colour and jubilation as the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Women Wing, Bayelsa State chapter, gathered for their annual Thanksgiving service, celebrating a year of God’s unending blessings, mercies and sustaining grace.
Dressed in beautifully patterned cultural attires adorned with coral beads and radiant head wraps, the women processed into the cathedral dancing joyfully, reflecting the unity and cultural pride for which the Igbo community is known.
The solemnity of the thanksgiving service was balanced with the vibrant expressions of gratitude, prayers and praise rendered in both English and Igbo dialects.
Speaking after the service, The Woman Leader, Lolo Ngozika Okoye, described the occasion as an opportunity to reflect on God’s goodness and to appreciate His guidance through the challenges and victories experienced throughout the year.
She emphasized that 2025 had been a year of growth, solidarity and divine preservation for their members and families—reasons enough to return thanks to the Almighty.
The thanksgiving also highlighted the group’s commitment to fostering peace, womanhood, community engagement and cultural heritage in Bayelsa State. Members offered prayers not only for their households but for the state, the nation, and the entire Igbo community in the Niger Delta region.
After service , the secretary Madam Eze Chidimma, stated that the thanksgiving is a yearly ritual, and prayed God to protect all the Igbos as the travel back to their villages, this Christmas.
She also pledged to continue promoting unity among Igbo women living in Bayelsa.
The event ended with special thanksgiving songs, traditional dance displays and heartfelt testimonies, marking yet another chapter of faith, culture and sisterhood within the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Women Wing in Bayelsa State.
