Ondo State Police has confirmed the arrest of a farmer who allegedly beat two suspected thieves to death on his farm.
The incident took place in Ore, in the Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.
The farmer, who was simply identified as Adegoke was said to have claimed that the deceased and some others from the neighbouring community had been stealing produce from his farm.
The suspected thieves were said to have also stolen his motorcycle which was parked on the farm.
According to a source, on the day of the incident, Adegoke was said to have met some people again on the farm who were suspected to be thieves.
He allegedly engaged the intruders in a fight, killing two and injuring others in the process.
“Some suspected thieves had been stealing Adegoke’s farm produce. Before now, his cocoa, kola nuts, and plantains had been missing from his farm often. The thieves had also stolen his motorcycle on the same farm.
“He caught some people on the farm again and beat them to stupor and in the process two died and others were injured,” said the source.
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed the suspect’s arrest and said investigation into the matter had commenced.
“Investigation into the incident is ongoing,” the PPRO confirmed.
