The 17 Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Katsina State commemorated the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day with a solemn parade and wreath-laying ceremony held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp along Mani Road, Katsina. The event honoured the memory of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the nation.
The ceremony was attended by notable dignitaries, including Governor Dikko Umaru Radda of Katsina State, Deputy Governor Faruq Lawal Jobe, and Speaker of the Katsina State House of Assembly, Nasiru Yahaya Daura. The Brigade Commander of the 17 Brigade, Brigadier General B.O. Omopariola, also played a key role in the day’s events.
The event commenced with a parade featuring soldiers from the 17 Brigade, demonstrating their discipline and commitment to the nation’s security. The highlight of the ceremony was the wreath-laying, led by Governor Radda, followed by Deputy Governor Jobe, Speaker Daura, and Brigadier General Omopariola. Representatives from other security agencies and veterans’ associations also participated in the wreath-laying.
In his address, Governor Radda praised the bravery and sacrifices of the armed forces, emphasizing their vital role in maintaining peace and security across Nigeria. He reaffirmed the state’s commitment to supporting the families of fallen heroes and ensuring their sacrifices are never forgotten.
Brigadier General Omopariola, in his remarks, highlighted the ongoing efforts of the Nigerian Army in tackling security challenges in the region. He expressed the army’s unwavering commitment to protecting the nation and ensuring peace and stability.
Deputy Governor Jobe and Speaker Daura also paid tribute to the fallen heroes, acknowledging their sacrifices and the importance of their contributions to the nation’s security.
The ceremony included prayers led by both Christian and Muslim clerics, symbolizing the unity and diversity of the nation. A two-minute silence was observed, followed by the sounding of the Last Post, a symbolic tribute to the departed souls.
The Armed Forces Remembrance Day serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by the military in safeguarding the country’s sovereignty. It also underscores the nation’s gratitude and respect for those who have given their lives in the line of duty.
The event concluded with a parade march-past, showcasing the dedication and professionalism of the Nigerian Armed Forces. Attendees left with a renewed sense of patriotism and appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s armed forces.
