President Bola Tinubu had in a letter to the Speaker, House of Representatives, read at the commencement of plenary Tuesday, announced his decision to decline signing the Federal University of Education, Numan, Adamawa State Establishment Bill 2024 and gave reasons.
The President in the letter noted that the decision, taken on the 23rd December 2024 to decline Presidential assent to the Bill hinged the decision mainly on Section 22 of the Bill which accords the Institution’s authority consent to the disposal of land to the Governor and not the President as ought to be the case in respect of land belonging to a Federal Government entity, as is the case with the University.
The President also pointed out a couple of structural and grammatical errors contained in the bill transmitted to him which prevented him from giving his assent.
In another development, the House adjourned plenary session till Wednesday (today) to pay tribute to one of its own, late Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga who represented Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency (Ogun State).
Onanuga aged 59, was until her demise last month following a brief illness, was the Deputy Chief Whip of the House of Representatives.
Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon Benjamin Kalu who presided at plenary said the adjournment was in line with Parliamentary tradition.
