The Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD), in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and Mercy Corps, has empowered 100 beneficiaries with livelihood support startup kits funded by the European Union (EU).
The program focuses on improving the livelihoods of youth and women in Batsari, Danmusa, Jibia, and Kankara Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Katsina State.
This initiative provided the beneficiaries with tools and equipment tailored to their trades, aiming to promote self-reliance and economic resilience in communities affected by insecurity and socio-economic challenges. The intervention is part of the EU’s broader commitment to fostering development and stability in vulnerable regions.
During the distribution ceremony, representatives from the CDD Mr David, Mr Musa Abdullahi from IOM and Linda Emmanuel from Mercy corps highlighted the significance of empowering grassroots communities. “This program is designed to not only provide immediate support but to create sustainable opportunities for youth and women.” they remarked.
The collaboration between CDD, IOM, and Mercy Corps reflects a concerted effort to address unemployment and insecurity while promoting social cohesion.
Beneficiaries expressed gratitude, acknowledging the life-changing potential of the kits.
Two of the recipients, Suleiman Adamu from Jibia LGA and Hauwa’u Tukur from Batsari LGA spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries said, “With this support, we can now start our businesses and provide for our families. We deeply appreciate the efforts of all involved in making this possible.”
Nigerian PILOT learnt that the EU’s funding underscores its commitment to empowering marginalized groups and supporting recovery efforts in conflict-prone areas.
Stakeholders pledged to continue working together to expand the program to other communities in need, fostering long-term development and stability in the region.
