No fewer than 13 people have been reported dead while 130 others hospitalized following a Cholera outbreak across 16 Local Government Councils of Niger State.
Most hit are Chanchaga, Bosso, Munya Shiroro Magama and Bida LGCs as a total cases of 239 have so far been recorded.
Nigerian Pilot gathered that 67 cases were recorded in Chanchaga, Bosso 68, Shiroro 58 while Bida, Magama and Munya LGCs 20 each.
Findings also revealed that the outbreak was partly as a result of consumption of contaminated rain water.
When contacted, the State Commissioner for Primary Health, Dr. Ibrahim Ahmed Dangana, confirmed the outbreak of the disease saying, government had already designated a Primary Healthcare Centre in each of the affected LGCs for the treatment of the affected persons with a view to curb the disaster.
“State government has procured sufficient quantities of drugs for treatment of the victims. Therefore, we are calling on the people of the state to improve on their personal hygiene and also insist on clean drinking water”, he explained.
