African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dismissed the rumours suggesting that it is planning to adopt a new party to challenge the President Tinubu-led APC in 2027.
This was disclosed by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Bola Abdullahi, who maintained that the ADC had moved on from the talks to adopt the All Democratic Alliance (ADA).
Abdullahi alleged that those behind the move for the creation of a one-party state in Nigeria were responsible for the series of litigations against ADC.
Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced last week that 14 of the 171 associations seeking registration as political parties, including the ADA, had scaled the first hurdle of the process.
This came weeks after former vice President, Atiku Abubakar resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined forces with other major opposition leaders, including the Labour Party’s Peter Obi, to form a coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The alliance is expected to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 election. However, following INEC’s latest announcement, there were reports in some quarters that the opposition coalition, which adopted the ADC in July this year, would finally pitch its tent with the ADA when it is finally registered as a political party.
But reacting, ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi explained that there is no truth in the rumour, adding that the coalition is committed to making the ADC a truly national democratic party.
Buttressing his point, the ADC spokesman, Bolaji Abdullahi, said those working to make Nigeria a one-party state were responsible for the series of litigations against the coalition. “We know from day one that what brought us into the coalition, the very forces that were destabilising the other opposition political parties are not going to allow the ADC coalition to just fly without challenge,” he said.
Recall that Atiku Abubakar had assured that the newly adopted coalition party, the African Democratic Congress (ADC), will challenge President Tinubu in the 2027 election. Atiku stated this recently and maintained that Nigeria “can never be a one-party state,” hence the need for the ADC to unseat Tinubu and the ruling APC in 2027.
