Ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, has endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as its sole presidential candidate for the 2027 presidential election.
The National Chairman of the party, Abdullahi Gandunje made the announcement in his address at the National Summit organized by the party at the banquet hall, Aso Villa, Abuja.
Similarly, all 22 governors elected on the platform of the APC have unanimously endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the party’s sole presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections.
The endorsement was announced on Thursday by the Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, at the APC National Summit held at the State House Banquet Hall in Abuja. The summit was themed Renewed Hope Agenda: The Journey So Far.
Uzodimma moved the motion for Tinubu’s adoption as the APC’s sole candidate, which was seconded by the PGF Vice Chairman, Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State.
The motion was put to a voice vote and adopted with a standing ovation by summit participants, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, members of the National Assembly, serving and former governors, and APC members from across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
This development follows a similar endorsement by the Northwest APC faction just five days earlier, signalling growing intra-party consensus behind Tinubu’s bid for a second term.
In in a related development, the leaders of both the Senate and the House of Representatives have expressed their full support for President Bola Tinubu’s second term, stating that the country is currently on a path of growth and progress.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who moved the motion on Thursday during the APC National Summit at the State House banquet hall in Abuja, acknowledged that the 2023 election posed significant challenges for President Tinubu.
Joined by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, and Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, among others, Akpabio expressed optimism about the future.
He predicted that Tinubu would secure even more states in the 2027 elections, stating that he sees a clear shift in momentum in the President’s favour.
He stated, “If this President has done well, isn’t it our responsibility to say so? And if he hasn’t done well, isn’t it also our duty to serve him a notice of impeachment?
“We are not giving him a notice of impeachment. We are giving him a notice that it was difficult for him in 2023. But in 2027, I see everything turning around. I see things changing. The number of states that are coming to join you is growing.
“As I was leaving today, a senator grabbed my dress and said, please take me there. I told him, “You can’t come now. And he is a Labour Party senator, I won’t mention his name”, he added.
