As politicians brace up for elections in the coming dispensation, the National Youth Alliance, NYA, Imo State Chapter has announced that it shall resist any attempt by any individual, group or public institution to impose a governor on the people of the state in 2027.
State chairman of Imo NYA, Comrade Chinonso Uba, who made the assertion Tuesday in a statement issued in Owerri indicated that the body will hold the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, responsible for any shabby and shady practices to subvert the will and wishes of the electorate.
Uba, popularly known as Nonsokwa, also declared Imo NYA endorsed Owerri Senatorial zone to produce the next governor as well as resolved to throw its weight of support behind any youth who possesses the requisite qualities.
According to him, the position of the youth group is sequel to a thorough review of the governorship elections in Imo from 1999 to date which showed that Orlu Zone had taken a larger chunk of the slot by occupying the Douglas House for 24years out 28years by 2027 when Governor Hope Uzodimma will leave office.
He noted with concern that Owerri Zone has only produced a 7-month Governor in the person of Rt Hon. Emeka Ihedioha while only Okigwe zone produced Governor in the person of Chief Ikedi Ohakim for 4years.
“From the ongoing, it’s clear that Owerri Zone is the only Zone hugely denied opportunity to produce Governor for the past 25yrs.
