… Walson-Jack says Nigeria’s Civil Service will go “paperless” by Dec. 31

Nigeria’s Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Walson-Jack, on Wednesday announced that over 5,000 delegates and participants are expected to gather in Abuja, Nigeria, for the 2025 African Public Service Day and Nigerian Civil Service Week.
She disclosed this to journalists at a World Press Briefing on the activities lined up to commemorate this year’s event.
Themed: ‘Rejuvenate, Innovate & Accelerate’, Walson-Jack said the 2025 edition will be a pan-African and international engagement, with guest speakers expected from the United Kingdom, Singapore, Ghana, Azerbaijan and others.
She added that the African Public Service Day adopted at the 1994 Pan-African Conference of Ministers in Tangier, Morocco, is celebrated annually across the continent on June 23 to honour public service values, promote professional excellence, and showcase public sector innovation.
Reeling out the series of activities lined up for this year’s celebration, she said, “It is my honour and privilege to announce that the Federal and State Civil Services will commemorate the African Public Service Day and the Nigerian Civil Service Week, from Friday, 20th to Saturday, 28th June 2025.
“In the same week, a historic inaugural International Civil Service Conference will be held in Abuja, Nigeria, from 25th to 26th June 2025. These events represent a defining moment in our ongoing journey to reposition the Nigerian Civil Service as a 21st-century engine for national development, regional and international leadership.
“The programme line-up includes the commissioning of the remodelled Reception for the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, a Special Juma’at Prayer at the National Mosque, a Thanksgiving Service at the Family Worship Centre, Wuye, and a Study Tour of the Federal Civil Service and Abuja by State’s Heads of Civil Service,” she said.
“A Welcome Cocktail for ICSC Speakers, Wellness Activities, and a Social Get-together for Civil Servants are some of the other activities. The meat of the Week would be the two-day International Civil Service Conference (ICSC). The week would be rounded off with a Rewards and Recognition Awards Ceremony,” Walson-Jack added.
On plans to transit to full digital operations, the HCSF said the entire civil service under her watch will go “paperless” by “December, 31st 2025”. “I urge all MDAs to begin to transit to paperless operations. Going paperless means that we are automating our work flows,” she said, adding that the deliverables of the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan (FCSSIP25), ends this year, hence, it must be fully implemented.
The Head of Service further affirmed that by hosting this year’s Pan-African Conference, Nigeria reaffirms its leadership in shaping Africa’s accountable, innovative, and citizen-responsive public service ecosystem.
