Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, has debunked claims that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu played a key role in Muhammadu Buhari’s emergence as President in 2015.
Speaking on Wednesday at the public presentation of the book “According to the President: Lessons from a Presidential Spokesman’s Experience” written by Malam Garba Shehu, former Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to ex-President Buhari, Mustapha emphasized that Buhari’s longstanding support base in the North—estimated at 12 million votes—was the decisive factor in his victory.
He noted that the merger that birthed the All Progressives Congress (APC) contributed only an additional three million votes to Buhari’s already established northern bloc.
The former SGF submitted that: “Every administration inherits unfinished tasks and is duty-bound to move them forward with clarity and purpose.
“President Buhari’s leadership was never about closure, but rather about initiating reforms, building institutions resilient to political shifts, and instilling a sense of duty in the state to serve its people.”
Meanwhile, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented at the event by the current SGF, Mr. George Akume, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building on the foundation laid by Buhari.
Akume said: “Nation-building is a relay race. The achievements of one administration serve as a stepping stone for the next.
