Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, the newly appointed Permanent Secretary for the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, has clarified his recent remarks about the National Carrier Project.
Nigerian Pilot had reported that after his inaugural address at the handover ceremony, Dr. Kana faced a wave of questions regarding his comments on reviving Nigeria’s National Carrier initiative, which had been previously discussed in collaboration with Ethiopian Airlines but ultimately stalled.
Briefing newsmen on Wednesday, Dr. Kana clarified that there was no official mandate to revive the failed Nigeria Air deal. He emphasized that his reference was not a commitment to resurrect the prior agreement but was part of the broader vision of the current administration to potentially explore a National Carrier if it aligns with the nation’s best interests.
“I have not received any specific instructions to revisit the Nigeria Air project with Ethiopian Airlines. My reference was to the possibility of reconsidering a National Carrier, if it proves advantageous for the country and is in line with the direction set by Mr. President and the Honourable Minister of Aviation,” Dr. Kana stated, as he aimed to dispel any misunderstandings surrounding his previous statement.
On a personal note, Dr. Kana expressed his unwavering commitment to the Honourable Minister of Aviation, pledging full cooperation to ensure the Ministry’s agenda moves forward. His dedication, he assured, is focused on fostering growth, innovation, and a bright future for Nigeria’s aviation and aerospace sectors.
