The Bauchi State Chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has inaugurated an 11-member technical committee to work out modalities for the implementation and payment of national minimum wage for civil servants in the state.
This was disclosed to Journalists by the NLC chairman, Comrade Dauda Shu’aibu shortly after the State Executive Council Meeting of the union which incorporated leaders of the labour unions in the state, saying the committee will prepare a technical report that will pave way for the implementation of the N70, OOO minimum wage in the state.
He explained that the National Secretariat of the NLC had organised training for states in Kano and Lagos on negotiating the implementation of the new minimum wage across the states, hence the decision to hold an SEC meeting and agreed in the formation of the technical Committee.
“The tripartite Committee passed through five processes as far as the issue of minimum wage is concerned. The steps were to negotiate, legislate, assent, gazzetting and finally issue a circular in respect of N70, OOO minimum wage that was agreed upon”, he said.
Comrade Dauda Shu’aibu said that the training organised for national leadership of the congress was on the strategy and methodology of conducting the negotiations which were conducted in Northern and Southern zones and respectively.
He explained that the meeting agreement was to form a technical committee with membership derivable from all sources of salary structures under the chairmanship of JNC Chairman that has the mandate to co-opt any useful member into the Committee.
Shu’aibu further stated that the inaugurated technical committee would swing into action and any moment from Friday, 4th October, 2024 it would start negotiations with all the tools and circular at hand to prepare adequately.
