THE Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has upscaled its efforts at building synergy and capacity-building engagements with fleet operators and driving schools to enhance drivers’ capacities for overall road safety.
Mr Shehu Mohammed, FRSC Corps Marshal, disclosed this at a news conference to mark the official flag-off of 2025 Ember Months campaign in Lokoja.
Represented by KOGI state Sector Commander of the Corps, Tenimu Etuku, the Corps Marshal, spoke on the theme:Take Responsibility for Your Safety: Stop Distracted Driving.
Corps Marshal Mohammed also revealed that the FRSC had upgraded its printing facilities to produce 15,000 driver’s licences daily, with a target to clear all pending applications before mid-November.
He lamented the alarming rate of road crashes in the country, attributing the spate to drivers’ laxity and recklessness on the highways.
“This is why the theme of this year’s ember month is carefully chosen to address road infringements by drivers, which were largely responsible for the previous road crash records.
“These violations include failure to adhere to road traffic rules and regulations, speed limit violation, driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, seat belt violation and road rage amongst others”, he said.
The FRSC boss announced plans to commence contactless biometric capture and on-the-spot licence printing, which would eliminate the issuance of temporary driver’s licences.
The Corps Marshall commended the Federal Government for its continued support to the Corps in the efforts to reduce road crashes and ensure safer road use during and beyond the ember months.
