Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Command, has partnered with Abuja Metropolitan Lions Clubs, District 404-A2 Nigeria, to kick out Diabetes from the work force.
The Diabetes Awareness Campaign tagged: “Work place well-being programme” was to commemorate this year’s World Diabetes Day, held at the Command Headquarters, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja.
Speaking, the FCT Commandant, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, lauded the Lions Club for partnering with the FCT Command, to enhance the well being of his personnel.
Odumosu, said in view of the nature of the Corps’ mandate, that entails personnel engaging in rigorous tasks, regular checks were imperative and vital to keep them fit for the onerous responsibility of safeguarding lives and properties of residents of the FCT.
He said, “Health no doubt is wealth, I can not take for granted the well-being of my personnel, this medical outreach is part of my agenda to ensure adequate sound health for my personnel because a healthy workforce is a productive workforce.
“Your presence and selfless service is undeniably a testament to what you stand for, “service to humanity”, your club over the years has proven its mettle and we are happy as a Corps to be partakers of your humanitarian services: I hope to have more of these partnerships since our job is field related, I will appreciate such medical checks often to keep my personnel fit always.”
Addressing Officers and men at the Monday Muster parade, the Lead Medical Doctor in the team, Lion Dr. Linda John, said the Lions Club was particular about the health and wellness of security personnel, and we pleased to be of service to the Corps.
John, noted that lots of people take diabetes for granted stating that it was treatable, adding that early detection with adequate treatment could keep the situation under control.
She urged personnel to indulge in regular exercise, eat healthy diets, reduce intake of alcohol, insist on regular health checks and take their medication as at when due.
The campaign according to a press release signed by DSC Monica Ojobi, Ag. FCT CDPRO, which featured health talks and free screenings aimed at promoting early detection and prevention of diabetes as well as presentation of free drugs to personnel, was led by its President Hajiya Hadiza Ibrahim.
