The Federal Ministry of Works in its management meeting of 4th November 2024 issued a Notice of termination of the contract with Julius Berger Plc on the rehabilitation of Section 1 Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano road for delaying the project execution without justification.
A statement made available to news men yesterday in Abuja explained that the action was in tandem with the aspiration of the Renewed Hope administration in holistically, boldly, and tenaciously tackling the cancer worms that hold back economic stimulation through infrastructural development.
The Ministry under the Renewed Hope administration of President Bola Tinubu, has inspired a change in the old order, ugly narrative, and business-as-usual syndrome that hitherto bedevilled the works sector. The Ministry has braced for a change in the ugly attitudes of some contractors who have constituted themselves into a cartel and sacred cows, the infectious syndrome of business-as-usual and capital flight in contract execution masterminded by some expatriate contractors, the reckless chase for variation on price and foreign exchange differentials, the utter disregard for value for money, quality and timely delivery of projects.
The Minister of Works, Engr. Nweze David Umahi, has shown that professionalism, passion, innovation, and determination can progressively shape the policy landscape of the works sector. With his ingenious sense of responsibility, articulate precision in facts and figures, unflinching tenacity in logically driving the Renewed Hope road infrastructure revolution agenda and zero tolerance for nothing short of performance, all contractors must know that the time for Nigeria first is now.
