Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Command, has concluded a two day workshop, tagged, “Gender: Transformative Approach” for Area Commanders, Divisional Officers and other Officers of the Command.
Declaring the event closed, the FCT Commandant, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, said the need to educate Officers on Gender Transformative Approaches has become imperative in view of the recurrent issues and concerns emanating from Gender Based Violence being reported in the FCT almost on a daily basis.
Speaking through DCC Pama Hussaini, who represented him at the event, Odumosu disclosed that the theme of the training workshop was apt and intended to equip Officers with requisite skills and knowledge to recognize, address and respond to victims of Gender Based Violence and related issues that will strengthen public trust and improve the quality of services the Corps provides.
According to a press release issued by DSC Monica Ojobi, FCT CDPRO, the workshop attracted renowned resource persons from reputable agencies such as NAPTIP, FCT Women Affairs Secretariat, and the Corps.
He posited that the training was appropriately and intentionally planned to address growing concerns.
He charged, “The purpose of the workshop was to enhance the effectiveness of our personnel as gender based violence has become a critical issue that affects communities where we live and operate from.”
“And because you play vital roles in preventing, responding and addressing cases of Gender Based Violence, be mindful of your actions and decisions as it may impact directly or indirectly on the safety, dignity and wellbeing of survivors or victims of Gender Based Violence”, he added.
He expressed confidence that the two days training has empowered his personnel drawn from Area Commands, Divisions and other specialized units including Safe Schools and Female Squad with the relevant knowledge, skills and attitude necessary to promote Gender Transformative Approaches in their respective work places and homes.
“With this training, rest assured that in no distant time, you will become rallying points, a beacon of knowledge and excellence that will be a source of inspiration and help to others.
“I challenge you all to return to your respective Area Commands and Divisions as change agents, educating both Officers and complainants of the danger of gender based violence and the need for a gender based violence-free society,” he stated.
He lauded the resource persons drawn from all works of life for their invaluable time and sacrifices.
