Organisers of the The Grand Awards, TGA, have called on Nigerian government to invest in creative, entertainment industry urging for the creation of more theatres because there were very few functional ones in the country.
The TGA organisers stated this at a press conference held yesterday to announce The Grand Awards, Nigeria’s first-ever dancers/performer’s award platform in Abuja.
The organisers said, “There a lot of things that the government can do to support creative arts and dancing in particular which are to create more theatre centres because we have very few functional ones in the country.”
They said that the Federal Government ought to invest more in creative arts by supporting the industry with finances adding that, “If we have more theatres where dancers can go for training it will help in developing the industry.
“If you take a look at the developed countries, they are benefiting alot from creativity because their their government had paid attention and to us here if done it will help in taking children off the street whereby reducing crime in the country.”
The organisers stated, “The Grand Award embodies a simple but powerful mission: to honor, elevate, and spotlight the incredible talents within our dance ecosystem—whether they perform on stages, in studios, or on screens across the world.
“This event is not just another awards night. It is a movement to promote our creative arts, to empower the dancers, enthusiasts, and supporters who shape the cultural heartbeat of Nigeria. We are creating a platform that recognizes excellence, fosters growth, and gives our dancers the visibility and recognition they truly deserve.
“We’re thrilled to announce that this year, over 30 award categories will be presented, celebrating diverse styles, skills, and contributions—from traditional and contemporary to street and digital performances.”
“In response to the ever-evolving landscape of dance, especially with the influence of technology and social media, we are proud to introduce five new exciting award categories, this year: TikTok Dancer of the Year – celebrating viral dance creators who have taken over digital platforms with creativity and flair.
“Most Influential Dancer of the Year – honoring those whose work has significantly inspired the dance community and culture.
“New Wave Choreographer of the Year – recognizing fresh, upcoming choreographers who are shaping the future of movement.
“Dance Studio of the Year – spotlighting studios that have consistently trained, mentored, and produced outstanding talent.
“Outstanding Locking Dancer – giving well-deserved recognition to excellence in this classic and expressive dance style. We want this to be a celebration for the people, by the people.
“We officially invite the public to nominate their favorite dancers and dance figures across all categories.
Nominations open from 20th July to 10th August, and will be accepted exclusively on our official website: www.thegrandaward.com
“After the nominations are reviewed and shortlisted, voting will begin from 24th August through to 14th September. Every voice counts—and we encourage everyone in the creative, cultural, and entertainment sectors to participate in choosing who gets to wear the crown this year.
