In line with its vision of boosting the quality of education, the Imo State government through the ministries of Education and Digital Economy and E-Government has initiated a Biometric Verification of Teachers and Infrastructural Assessment Exercise for all primary and secondary schools.
This collaborative effort is aimed at enhancing transparency, authenticating credentials as well as keying into modernized workforce management through advanced biometric systems.
In a statement made available to newsmen, Governor Hope Uzodimma’s Special Adviser on Public Enlightenment, Prince Eze Ugochukwu, disclosed that during the exercise, teachers must present original documents, including their First School Leaving Certificate, FSLC, FSLC Confirmation Letter, Birth Certificate or Age Declaration Affidavit, Letter of First Appointment, and academic qualifications.
Ugochukwu stated that the Ministry of Education has emphasized that teachers without valid FSLC Confirmation Letters will not be verified, and falsified documents will lead to severe consequences, including immediate dismissal and loss of benefits like gratuities and pensions.
His words, “Teachers with questionable documentation are urged to opt for voluntary retirement to avoid penalties.”
“The exercise also includes a comprehensive infrastructural assessment of schools, aligning with Imo State’s digital governance reforms. Principals and school heads are tasked with ensuring full compliance among teachers”, he added.
In his remarks, Dr. Chimezie Amadi, Commissioner for Digital Economy and E-Government, praised the orderly participation during his inspection and highlighted the initiative’s role in building a digitally empowered education system.
“This is a new era for Imo State’s education, driven by transparency and digital infrastructure,” he said, urging all teachers to participate fully.
“This initiative marks a significant step toward a more accountable and efficient education sector in Imo State,” Amadi submitted.
