Hensard University, the first private university in Bayelsa State, has received approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to offer 16 new undergraduate programmes.
This marks a significant expansion of its academic offerings, bringing the total number of programmes to 59 across 12 faculties.
The newly approved courses include MBBS Medicine and Surgery, Nursing Science, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Civil Engineering, Petroleum and Gas Engineering, Marine Engineering, Anatomy, Radiography, and more.
Others include; Physiology, Complementary and Alternative Medicine, Health Information Management, Medical Laboratory Science, Physiotherapy and Public Health.
These programmes will commence in the 2024/2025 academic session following an earlier approval of 14 programmes by the NUC in January 2025, including Law (LL.B.), Pharmacy (Pharm.D.), and various education-related degrees.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dileep Kumar expressed his gratitude for the approvals and commended the university’s Chancellor, Senator Seriake Dickson, for his dedication to expanding access to quality education.
He assured prospective students of a world-class learning environment focused on academic excellence, entrepreneurship, and innovation.
The university also emphasizes holistic development through dual certifications and partnerships with global institutions.
Located in Toru-Orua, Hensard University was established in 2023 by the Henry Seriake Dickson Foundation. It aims to produce leaders equipped with practical skills and moral values to positively impact society. Admissions for the new programmes are open for the 2024/25 session.
