Governor Dikko Umaru Radda of Katsina State has expressed deep sorrow over the sudden death of Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, who passed away at the age of 56.
In a heartfelt tribute, Governor Radda honored General Lagbaja as a distinguished military leader, whose dedication to safeguarding Nigeria’s sovereignty and addressing internal security challenges was unwavering.
The Governor praised the late General’s strategic insight and commitment to enhancing the operational strength of the Nigerian Army, which had a lasting impact on the nation’s military readiness.
Reflecting on their interactions, Governor Radda noted that during Lt. Gen. Lagbaja’s tenure as General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division of the Nigerian Army, he played a vital role in tackling security issues in areas under his jurisdiction.
Governor Radda recalled that in meetings centred on regional security, Lt. Gen. Lagbaja was relentless in his drive to combat banditry and other security threats affecting Katsina and the wider region. The Governor highlighted the General’s recent visit to Katsina on September 6, 2024, during which he reviewed military operations and civil-military relations, showcasing his hands-on leadership.
“Lieutenant General Lagbaja’s legacy in the Nigerian military is a testament to his patriotism and exceptional leadership. His innovative approaches to counter-terrorism and military modernization have left an indelible mark on Nigeria’s defense framework.” Radda stated
Governor Radda extended his condolences to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the government and people of Osun State, the Nigerian Army, and all Nigerians. He also offered his deepest sympathies to General Lagbaja’s family, urging them to find solace in his legacy of service and sacrifice.
Governor Radda prayed for the repose of the late General’s soul, hoping for strength for his family and the nation to bear this monumental loss.
