Katsina State Government has allocated a substantial N50 billion for the execution of various water-related projects across the state in 2025. This announcement was made by the Managing Director of the state Water Board, Engineer Tukur Hassan Tingilin, during the inauguration of grievance redress committees in Katsina on Tuesday.
Engineer Tingilin revealed that the government has initiated several projects aimed at providing potable water across the state, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to improving water infrastructure. He noted that N8.4 billion was allocated for the 2024 project to overhaul, upgrade, and rehabilitate water facilities in five Local Government Areas (LGAs) under the World Bank’s NG-SURWASH programme, benefiting 20 communities.
“The aim of these projects is to enhance water supply and infrastructure across Katsina State. This includes replacing obsolete pipes, installing new water systems, and upgrading existing facilities,” Tingilin stated.
He highlighted the extensive consultations with stakeholders in the affected communities, ensuring the initiative’s success. The grievance redress committees, inaugurated for Katsina/Batagarawa, Daura, Funtua, Dutsinma, and Malumfashi LGAs, are tasked with addressing issues between communities and contractors during project execution.
Tingilin elaborated on the committees’ roles, emphasizing their responsibility to ensure affected residents are compensated and the project implementation meets required quality and specifications.
He further explained the necessity of upgrading water facilities to accommodate the growing population in these areas. “Communities will be equipped with additional water tanks, boreholes, solar facilities, and maintenance measures to ensure sustainable water supply,” he added.
The government plans to replace old water pipes in Katsina metropolis to ensure clean and potable water supply, while also extending water lines to newly developed areas.
Governor Dikko Radda’s efforts aim to ensure that no community is left without water supply, a move commended by the District Head of Malumfashi and Galadiman Katsina, Justice Sadiq Abdullahi-Mahuta. He assured the government’s commitment to the project’s success with the support of the Katsina and Daura emirate councils.
This comprehensive initiative marks a significant step towards addressing water challenges and improving the quality of life for residents in Katsina State.
