Contrary to reports that the planned convention of the opposition People’s Democratic Party, PDP slated for November 15th, has been council led, the Oyo State High Court Tuesday granted the Party permission to proceed with its elective national convention as scheduled in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The court also directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to attend and monitor the exercise.
In a ruling delivered by Justice A. L. Akintola, the court issued an interim order allowing the party to continue its convention arrangements without interference.
The ruling followed an ex-parte motion filed by Folahan Adelabi against the PDP its Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum; Governor Umaru Fintiri, who chairs the National Convention Organising Committee; and INEC.
Recall that Adelabi had approached the court seeking to prevent the defendants from altering or disrupting the timetable, guidelines, or schedule of the planned convention.
Justice Akintola, in his decision on Monday, held that the claimant had established a strong case deserving of urgent judicial attention.
“The motion ex-parte has merit and succeeds as prayed,” the judge ruled, granting temporary reliefs that protect the PDP’s timetable and direct all parties to allow the convention to proceed as planned.
The substantive motion for an interlocutory injunction was adjourned to November 10, 2025.
The interim order, issued on November 3, 2025, was sealed by the Oyo State High Court and endorsed by its Principal Registrar, S. O. Hammed.
