President Bola Tinubu has commissioned the Kugbo bus and taxi terminal in Abuja, says project aimed at ending the menace of one-chance robberies, kidnappings, and thuggery that have characterised public transportation in the nation’s capital.
He commended the minister of federal capital territory and his team for utilizing scarce public resources to initiate and complete the project within record time and describing it as a meticulously planned transportation hub that would boost economic activities, create jobs and enhance public safety.
The terminal, which is the second to be commissioned by the president is equipped with advanced security features, including comprehensive CCTV surveillance, to ensure the safety and comfort of commuters.
Speaking at the commissioning which was held on Thursday in Abuja, the President represented by the senate president, God’s will Akpabio said the terminal is a testament to his administration’s commitment to rebuilding and revitalizing the nation’s infrastructure.
“As encapsulated in the renewal agenda of my administration, my solemn promise to rebuild and revitalize our nation’s infrastructure, enhance the lives of Nigerians, create an environment where security and efficiency become the order of the day, are being fulfilled, one significant step at a time,” he said.
The president expressed his determination to turn around the fortunes of Nigerians through improved connectivity, reduced travel time, and economic growth.
He noted that the Mabushi and Kugbo international bus terminals would meet global practices and principles of sustainable urban development in the area of transportation, automatically erasing the ugly experiences of chaotic public transportation in the past.
As you may recall, on Tuesday, the 17th day of June 2025, we were at the Mabushi district to commission the Mabushi terminal, the first of its kind in our nation’s capital, and I dare say, in our entire nation”, the president said.
He explained that his administration’s decision to prioritize high-impact transportation infrastructure was based on the undeniable fact that no nation has made noticeable progress without modernising and expanding its critical public mobility and public utilities.
The president assured Nigerians that the terminals would align with development goals of transit-oriented cities, with smart mobility, compact living spaces, parking management, and winning support of stakeholders and citizens, ultimately transforming lives.
“We heard your concerns, we understood your fears, and we acted,” President Tinubu said. “With your compliance, you will no longer suffer from one-chance robberies by the roadside.”
He also hinted that the Kugbo Bus Terminal, alongside its counterparts in Mabushi and other upcoming terminals, such as the one at Eagle Square in the Central Business District, will contribute significantly to the government’s efforts to improve connectivity, reduce travel time, and boost economic growth, thereby creating opportunities.
He also thanked the National Assembly for their support, which has enabled his administration to fulfill its promises to Nigerians.
However, Tinubu urged residents of the FCT to utilize the facility responsibly and cooperate with the management to ensure its smooth operation.
