A Non Governmental Organization (NGO), Davdebby Foundation has distributed food items to 100 orphans and widows in Ondo State.
This distribution took place in Akure, the Ondo state capital.
The coordinator of the project, Dolapo Asekere, noted that the gesture was an initiative of her sister who is also the convener of the foundation, Bukola Ogunyosoye.
According to her, both of them grew up being poor and decided to give back to the needy now that they have been blessed.
Asekere further revealed that the reason this gesture came at this particular time is due to the hardship being faced by many Nigerians who might not even have what to eat during this festive period.
She then called on government to assist in providing money or food items so as to reach larger crowds
She said, “My sister had the vision for deprived and orphans due to the challenges that we faced when we were young. While growing up, things were so hard, now that God blesses our family; we decided to do for people. It has been our joy to give to the needy and we have started this project about three years.”
“The reason for this is that in our society things are so hard, some family can’t even feed. Some family might not have what to eat during the festive period that is the reason why we thought to put something on the table of people.
“Government can also support us with whatever they can by giving us money or food items to go to places where people are suffering”, she said.
She further added that apart from distributing food, the foundation provides scholarships for pupils in public primary school and also provides the necessary materials they need.
“We go to primary public schools to look out for those in need. Some pupils are just in school without necessary things like writing materials, footwear and clothes, we bring them out, give them scholarship and provided them with all they need in school,” she added.
