The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has begun flood awareness campaign ahead of the 2025 rainy season.
Flagging off the awareness campaign in Jigawa State, NOA Director, Ahmad Ibrahim stated that the initiative is part of the agency’s efforts to engage and sensitise communities on effective flood mitigation measures.
Addressing stakeholders at
Tsakuwawa, in Kafin Hausa local government area, Ahmad noted that the
recent devastation caused by floods necessitates deliberate and concerted efforts from all members of society.
He enumerated some preventive
measures to avert devastating
flooding, including clearing of water
channels, planting trees to control soil
Erosion and paying keen attention to
weather alerts and forecasts to stay
informed and prepared.
He further appealed to residents to take
proactive measures ahead of the rainy
season, admonishing them to adopt
a collective approach to mitigate the
impact of flood-related disasters.
Ibrahim Sulaiman, District Head of Bulangu, commended the agency for its commitment to building healthy and safe communities.
He urged residents to avoid practices that harm their surroundings.
The event featured a robust technical session educating participants on environmentally friendly practices.
Attendees included village heads, religious leaders, civil society members, and various community-based organisations.
