The Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) Staff Fellowship has supported inmates of Kuje Correctional Centre, with food donations and payment of West African Examination Council (WAEC) fees.
Mr John Oleka, Coordinator of NSITF fellowship, while making the presentation during a visit to the Kuje Correctional Centre in Abuja on Tuesday, said the visit, aimed to provide rehabilitation resources and foster positive engagement with the prison community.
He said the programme was organised in partnership with NSITF.
According to him, the partnership is part of NSITF Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.
He said the initiative sought to provide support, hope, and rehabilitation resources, aligning with the organisation’s commitment to social responsibility.
”It is also aimed at bringing hope and support to inmates,” he said.
According to him, the programme is designed to uplift inmates spiritually, socially, and academically while fostering a culture of empathy and responsibility among our staff.
He said that the initiative reflects NSITF’s dedication to giving back to society and providing meaningful support to vulnerable populations, including those in correctional facilities.
Also, Rev. Vincent Obiorah, who delivered the sermon during the visit to inmates, said the Lord Jesus Christ identified with all people and offered forgiveness regardless of their past.
Obiorah described Jesus Christ as God’s greatest gift to humanity, urging inmates to accept His guidance and make the most of their current circumstances.
Obiorah counselled inmates to see their situations as opportunities to reorder their lives, emphasising personal growth, repentance, and positive life choices.
The programme featured a service, counselling session, presentation of donated items including food, toiletries, reading materials, and clothings, and payment of WAEC fees for twenty inmates.
