Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has announced that the Ondo State Deep-Sea Port will soon begin operation.
He made this disclosure at a press conference with journalists which was held at Araromi town, in the Igbokoda Local Government Area of the state.
It would be recalled that the past administration of President Muhammadu Buhari approved the establishment of a deep sea port in Ondo State and granted its operating license in the year 2023.
However, two years later, the status of the deep sea port project remains a subject of interest as it was yet to begin operation even after receiving its license.
In an interactive session with the governor, Aiyedatiwa revealed that progress is underway to commence the operation of the deep sea port.
According to him, there was an error in the initial approved license which the government is currently working on to correct.
He said “There was an error made when the Ondo State deep sea port licence was issued. Ordinarily the name on the license is supposed to be Ondo Port Development Limited which is the owner of the license, but when the license was issued, erroneously it was written in one potential partner’s name which was not supposed to be.
“The name on the license name was not Ondo State and because of that we have to make some move to get that error corrected and you know it’s like starting a new process because of all the process that is involved.
“Right now we are at the act of getting that name corrected and give openings for other investors to partner with us. I can tell you that Ondo state deepsea port limited has come to stay. it is a port that will not only benefit Ondo State but all Nigerians.”
Also speaking on other sectors in the state, Aiyedatiwa stressed that his administration was committed to improving the quality of infrastructures, agriculture, education, electricity among others in the state.
