The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Nasarawa State, Dr. Shehu Wahab, announced on Monday that a total of 35,013 persons have so far registered during the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in the state.
Speaking at a news conference in Lafia, Wahab said that as of Sunday, December 7, 2025, registrations were recorded across all 13 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state.
He explained that the first quarter of the CVR exercise, which began on August 25, would end on December 10. Out of the total registrants, 16,122 (46.05 per cent) are male, while 18,891 (53.95 per cent) are female.
Wahab further disclosed that 317 Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) and 28,324 youths across both genders were among those who registered.
Within the same period, 16,941 persons applied for transfer of voter registration, 9,212 requested updates to their voter information, and 6,119 applied for replacement of damaged cards.
“These figures are provisional because we will soon undertake the automated biometric identification system clean-up process to identify and remove all invalid registrations, including multiple registrations, to come up with a credible and clean register of voters,” Wahab stated.
He added that the voter register for Nasarawa State currently stands at 1,899,244, while 1,847,752 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) have been collected.
“After the conclusion of the CVR and clean-up exercise, we will display the preliminary register of voters for claims and objections, with a view to updating and producing an authentic voter register for the state,” he explained.
The REC affirmed that the second phase of the CVR would resume on January 5, 2026, to ensure that every eligible person in the state is registered ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He, however, noted a decline in turnout for the registration exercise from the first week to the fourth week. Wahab appealed to eligible residents to take advantage of the opportunity by visiting the INEC headquarters in Lafia or its offices in the 13 LGAs either on December 10 or from January 5 to register or update their records.
