Officers of the Katsina State Police Command have arrested two suspected car thieves who allegedly attempted to bribe their way to freedom with a sum of one million naira. The officers, attached to the Border Patrol Team, Zone 4, displayed uncommon integrity by rejecting the offer and proceeding with the arrest.
According to a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, the arrest took place on April 11, 2025, at about 3:00pm, during a routine patrol along Birnin Kuka village in Mashi Local Government Area of the state.
The suspects identified as Mubarak Kabir and Adamu Hashim, both residents of Kurna quarters in Fagge LGA, Kano State were intercepted while driving a green Toyota Corolla LE.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the vehicle was reportedly stolen from the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. In a desperate attempt to avoid prosecution, the suspects allegedly offered the officers a cash bribe of ₦1,000,000, which was promptly rejected.
“The officers conducted themselves with exemplary professionalism and arrested the suspects without compromise,” the statement read in part.
Items recovered from the suspects include the suspected stolen Toyota Corolla, the ₦1 million cash, three mobile phones, a power bank, and a bunch of keys. The suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue to determine the full extent of their criminal network.
Commending the officers for their patriotism and dedication, the Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command, CP Bello Shehu, lauded their unwavering commitment to duty.
He reaffirmed the command’s resolve to uphold the rule of law, protect citizens, and maintain the highest standards of integrity and human rights.
