A clergy, Archbishop (prof) Leonard Bature Kawas of the World Harvest Ministries Inc. Jikoyi, Sbuja has drawn a parallel between the Christian Faith and the practice of Journalism.
In a sermon yesterday to mark the NUJ FCT Council 2025 Press Week, the man of God said the two depended heavily on action and faith in the words of the Lord to manifest the messages passed across by both.
He was categorical that it is not just enough to docilely pray or pass vital information across without backing them with faith and action to make such effective.
Bishop Kawas said such actions must be in line with the Christian religion tenets which teach that what is bound or loose on earth is the same in heaven.
According to Archbishop Kawas, the various forms of communication strategies, just like in the Christian doctrine, are best served by God fearing actions by propagators of Christianity and Journalism.
The Archbishop cautioned journalists to guard against unethical practices such as fake news and yellow journalism, warning that they bring out the worst in the practice of an otherwise noble profession.
He further charged them to constantly operate with the fear of God in them to always be in His devine Grace.,
The clergy also caution journalist not to allow themselves become pawns in the alignment and realignment in the runup to the 2027 general election by constantly seeking God’s intervention and taking pro- active actions for safety.
Special prayers were said for men of the pen profession who ply their trade in the Federal Capital Territory.
The Special church service was attended by many journalists of different faiths led by the indefatigable NUJ, FCT Chairman Grace Ike and her resourceful exco members.
