Civic society group, the Osun Mastermind, TOM, yesterday urged President Bola Tinubu to prioritize addressing Nigeria’s worsening insecurity over any political considerations, including potential plans for re-election.
Addressing newsmen in Osogbo, the Executive Director, TOM, Professor Wasiu Alli, expressed deep concern about the rising violence across the country, particularly the recent killings in the North-Central region.
Alli, warned that the scale of insecurity now appears to exceed the capacity of the nation’s existing security framework.
In his words, “We are saddened by the level of insecurity in the country which is beginning to look bigger than the capacity of our current security architecture. The killings in the North-Central, and reports of insecurity all around the country calls for immediate review of our counter-terrorism policies and our approach to National Security.
“The President need to immediately re-work the security architecture, kicking out incompetent personnel and ensuring adequate motivation for the personnel involved in securing our country.
“Mr. President must realize that securing Nigeria is more important than every plan to win a re-election. He must not allow Nigeria to disintegrate under his watch as this will place his name in the wrong page of history.”
It called on President Tinubu to undertake urgent reforms, including a comprehensive overhaul of the security architecture, the replacement of underperforming officials, and improved motivation for personnel tasked with safeguarding the nation.
The group also accused Governor Ademola Adeleke, of shifting its focus from governance to political manoeuvring ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
He said, “We have watched with disappointment, how Governance in Osun State has now been abandoned for politicking. Government functionaries that should be pre-occupied with discharge of government responsibilities are spending all of their time on politics, leaving the people of the State to suffer.
While 2026 is indeed the Governorship election year, governance must progress smoothly until the last day of this administration, whether it wins a second term or not. It is unacceptable to sacrifice governance on the altar of political expediency and we call on all government actors to prioritize the public service for which they are paid salaries and other emoluments.”
