The Senate has urged the National Emergency Management Agency NEMA to as a matter of urgency reach out to the affected communities washed away by flooding in Adamawa state and provide relief materials to the victims.
This followed a motion sponsored by senator Amos Yohanna Adamawa North.
Senato Yohanna said that urgent intervention is needed following the humanitarian crisis caused by massive flooding with a catastrophic effect on five local government areas of Adamawa state, Madagali, Maiha, Michika, Mubi North and Mubi South.
Senator Yohanna continued that hundreds of houses and farmlands were destroyed, Bridges and culverts in Shuwa, Baladega bridge along Mubi-Maiha road also washed away.
He expressed worry that this will worsen the already difficult economic and security situation affecting the people and will relapse in the internally displaced persons.
The motion was unanimously adopted by the senators and passed.
They resolved that the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency should intervene in the rehabilitation of Shuwa and Baladega bridges.
Addressing newsmen soon after plenary senator Amos Yohanna said he was particular about the humanitarian crisis and the two bridges washed away as a result of the massive flooding.
He said the cause of the flooding was purely on heavy downpour rather than human factors.
He said the cause of the flood was not as a result of the release of water from Lagdo Dam in Cameroon but as a result of heavy downpour.
