President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Dr. Bernard Mohammed Doro as the new Minister for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction.
His nomination follows the elevation of Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, the immediate past minister, to the position of National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
This was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement, President Tinubu has forwarded Dr. Doro’s name to the Senate for screening and confirmation in accordance with constitutional provisions governing ministerial appointments.
Dr. Bernard Doro, born on January 23, 1969, in Kwall, Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, is a respected professional with over two decades of multidisciplinary experience.
He has served in various capacities across clinical medicine, pharmaceutical management, strategic leadership, and community development initiatives both in Nigeria and the United Kingdom.
Before his nomination, Doro was known for his extensive work in public health and social welfare, focusing on improving access to quality healthcare services and empowering vulnerable populations.
His background in humanitarian interventions and policy formulation aligns with the core mandate of the ministry, which oversees poverty reduction and social protection programmes for Nigeria’s most disadvantaged groups.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction plays a crucial role in coordinating the Federal Government’s social investment initiatives, including disaster response, poverty alleviation, and empowerment schemes.
Dr. Doro’s appointment, once confirmed, is expected to bring renewed drive to these programmes, especially amid ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s social safety nets.
President Tinubu’s choice of Doro shows his administration’s commitment to competence and reform-driven governance.
