Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, OPWS, have foiled a terrorist attack, neutralizing two terrorists and recovering arms during an operation in Tor Ikyeghgba village, Taraba State. The operation was part of Operation Lafiya Nakowa, aimed at flushing out terrorists and other criminal elements across the state.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, said the troops acted on credible intelligence which led them to the Powerline axis where the terrorists were converging.
“On arrival at the general area, the troops made contact with the terrorists along the Powerline axis and immediately engaged them with superior firepower, resulting in the neutralization of two terrorists,” Muhammad stated.
Items recovered from the operation include one locally fabricated pistol, two Dane guns, three rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, one Baofeng radio, one motorcycle, and other items.
While commending the troops for their swift response, resilience, and professionalism, the Commander, 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, urged them to sustain the momentum. He further assured residents of Taraba that the Brigade remains committed to peace, safety, and security in the state.
He also called on the public to continue to support ongoing operations by providing timely and credible information that would aid in the fight against criminality.
